Liz Hale began her design career
at the infamous and salient offices
of Slash Records. With a background
and degree in fine arts [painting],
she found design and art direction
of alternative music packaging and marketing to be a perfect fit, often utilizing her own illustrative and painterly solutions for the notoriously low budgeted projects. Additionally she was responsible for the re-packaging of all the iconic early releases of the label.
Hale moved to the Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, eventually serving as Deputy Art Director. At the Magazine, she worked with a notable array of editors and writers, collaborating with the very best photographers and illustrators to produce weekly dynamic, incisive graphics and editorial content. While there she received various awards for design and art direction.
Currently, Liz Hale is a principal partner in the OH5 Design Studio, with Nan Oshin, a former Creative Director for the Los Angeles Times Magazine. The studio specializes in all forms of communication including editorial, interactive, advertising, packaging and identity. OH5 Design has functioned as creative directors and design consultants to a number of freelance clients in the music and arts industries, packaging design, interactive publications and educational institutions.
